Well after a long cold winter, spring has finally sprung here in zone6b. The daffodils are blooming, the grass is greening up… but wait… there is a more important harbinger of spring! Yep, you guessed it! Sarracenia flowers! Well… not flowers yet anyway.
I took a quick look in the bogs and some of the early bloomers (S. flava and S. purpurea) are sending up flower scapes. Funny though, only the flavas from Virginia and the Carolinas have started to send up flowers. The flavas from GA and Florida aren’t really moving yet. This is consistent from year to year. I guess the more southern plants need a bit more time to get the juices flowing.
