Like that old phrase goes, “there more than one way to skin a cat”… funny, as I typed that I’m sitting here wondering where that came from? Odd… anyway, there’s also more than one way to winter Sarracenia in cold climates. Here is another method…
These photos came from a chap in northern New Jersey. He grows his plants potted in these large containers. Using hay, he built himself a “fortress” around his containers to shelter his plants.
As you can see, the plants came though beautifuly!
Thanks so much for allowing me to share these…

Pretty cool ! Good to know info ! Great job 🙂 I have a question if you don’t mind, do you have any abnormal problems with mold, being that you have used hey ? Is it chemical free hey ?
They are untreated straw bales and they did get a little black on the bottom where they sat on the ground. No mold near the containers, though.
Since we had such a cold winter with months of snow, I pretty much left everything alone. The containers were frozen solid but it seems that the plants didn’t mind, as they slowly start growing.
What a fantastic idea however if you have a great number plants, would it possibly be better to do what you have been doing.

Did your pots have drainage holes and how cold did your area get..
They are drained in the winter. In the summer I keep a water table inside the pots at about 1/3 of their height. I’m using this setup: http://www.carnivorousplants.org/howto/GrowingEnvirons/SarraceniaDeck.php
follow up what is the black lattice looking area by the wall?
The area in the pictures is actually part of my vegetable garden. In the summer I grow cucumbers up the trellis on the garage wall.
sorry that was not your setup but a guy in jersey..just disregard..sorry
